Why choose Plants for the Bathroom

Living bathroom plants (as opposed to artificial plants) are proven to improve the air quality within the room, reduce the moisture content which can reduce mould issues and also they have been reported to reduce bathroom bacteria levels.   Living plants also brighten a space and can add colour and warmth to an often bland room, making it a calm and relaxing atmosphere.  The perfect place for a peaceful soak in the bath or soothing shower.

Air Plants in the Bathroom

Air plants are a low maintenance plant which is a cousin to the pineapple plant.  They will absorb the water from the atmosphere therefore ideal for a steamy bathroom.  They will also enjoy a quick dip in rain water (not tap water due to the chemicals added). A super cute size which is ideal for a smaller bathroom.  Air plants grow without soil and are often placed in a shell or on driftwood to enhance the bathroom feel.   With over 600 different species available there are plenty to choose from.  The plant can product ‘pups’ which are offsets and can be transplanted to add to your collection.

Aloe Vera in the Bathroom

Aloe Vera is a not only medicinal plant, which has been used to treat health and skin conditions for years.  It is also a water absorber, great to help remove the steam and moisture in the air after a bath or shower, which can lead to mould developing.  And to really earn its place on the bathroom window sill, this amazing plant also is an air purifier.

Small shoot will form on this plant, so again it will self propagate and you can pot these on for yourself or family and friends.

Ferns in the Bathroom

All varieties of Fern come from the forest floor so they are use to and will thrive in shade and moist conditions.  These characteristics make them ideal choice for a bathroom plant as they don’t need direct sun and prefer shaded spots with humidity.

Their ever-green leaves will add so much colour to the bathroom as well as purifying the air.

Spider Plant in the Bathroom

The spider plant is one of the most popular bathroom plants thanks to its air purifying qualities and according to greenmatters.com, NASA tested their ability to remove formaldehyde from a sealed plexiglass chamber, and found that spider plants were able to remove 95% of the substance within 24 hours. Amazing.

Their arching leaves and quick-growing ability make these ideal plant for all around the home, and they are particularly good to consider in the bathroom.  They do not like direct light so a shadier bathroom is ideal for them.
