How to style a bathroom
Your bathroom might be the smallest room in your home but this doesn’t make it any less important. You should fill your bathroom with artwork and decor just like you would in your living room or bedroom. To help you get started, we’ve provided some ways you can display your towels, decorate your vanity cabinet and dress your bathroom windowsill.
How to decorate a bathroom vanity
First up is your bathroom vanity. You may have never thought about ‘decorating’ it before, but it can look bare and empty if it has nothing on it.
Invest in a pretty soap dispenser and a matching container for your toothbrushes and toothpaste. These come in all sorts of colours, patterns and materials so you’ll be sure to find a set that you love.
You don’t want to add too much decor to your vanity cabinet as it could start to look cluttered and messy. Instead, choose a small, simple item that won’t get in the way, such as a candle or a small plant, like the one pictured below.

If you do choose a plant, make sure it’s one that likes damp environments and doesn’t mind the shade, as bathrooms tend to have smaller windows. If you’re worried about maintenance, choose an artificial one.
Finally, a mirror above your vanity cabinet is a must. It reflects light back into the room and comes in handy when you’re brushing your teeth.
How to display towels in the bathroom
Towels shouldn’t just be seen as an item to dry yourself with. They can become a part of your bathroom decor. So how can you display them?
You could roll and place them into a gorgeous gold wire or wicker basket, pictured below.
You could buy some white towels for show, or refill the basket with clean ones for your family or guests to use when they need one.
These baskets could be placed anywhere such as a windowsill, toilet lid, a stool tucked in the corner of the room or even a wooden shelf.
How to layer bathroom towels
Layering is the key when it comes to displaying your bathroom towels. If you have a towel rail, put a large towel at the back and a smaller one at the front. The two towels can look the same, or they can be different from one another.

It’s up to you how you stack them. The ones above have been left unfolded, but you could fold them in half first, or stack them next to each other instead of on top of each other. It just depends on which look you prefer. If you don’t have a towel rail, you could stack the towels on a stool or on a shelf.
Another good layering trick is to put a folded face towel underneath your soap dish, or underneath your bath products. It will add a contrasting texture and some interest, instead of just putting your soap dish on the sink.
Folded towels can be put just about anywhere in the bathroom that has a surface so play around and see where you prefer to put them.
How to dress a bathroom window
Small items such as glass candles or mini shampoos look lovely on a windowsill and create a neat, hotel style bathroom. Alternatively you could add a small plant or get more creative and fill glass jars with bath bombs or use white wooden letters to spell out a word. Just be careful that you don’t over clutter the shelf as the items could start to block out the natural light.
