Which Bathroom Waste Plug to Choose
As all bathroom basin sinks require a waste plug, its good to know which one to choose when installing your new bathroom.
We are often asked what the difference is between the four type of waste we offer and which one to choose.
We hope our guide will to help you.
The freeflow waste has a domed top which is screw-able open to adjust the flow through but won’t shut. This allows water to slowly drain out and therefore the basin will never fill up or overflow. This type of waste is used as an alternative to an overflow and is used on basins that do not have an internal overflow system.
A non-slotted basin waste is used on a bathroom sink that doesn’t have an overflow system. The waste is closed by pushing the top of the waste down and water will collect in the basin, to release the water, press the waste top again and it will pop up allowing water to flow through
A slotted waste is used on a basin that has an internal overflow system The slot holes in the side of this type of waste, when fitted, will match up with the channels in the basin and then any overflow water will be channelled down the waste and away into the drain. The waste is closed by pushing the top of the waste down and water will collect in the basin, to release the water, press the waste top again and it will pop up allowing water to flow through.
The gated waste is very popular in pubs, hotels and restaurants as again it is used as a safeguard in case the tap is left running and unlike the freeflow, there is not option to adjust the outflow. It is also popular in the homes of small children and with our KIVA, DUNE and MEXA range which all have waste covers
